Q & A With Chief Development Officer Frankie Piccirilli.
1. How did you decide on the theatrical theme?
The Detroit Opera House, first and foremost, is a theater and home to Michigan Opera Theatre opera productions and dance presentations. We wanted to celebrate the building’s primary role as a theater and showcase what it is known for: storytelling. We are inviting our guests to immerse themselves in the theatrical experience through opera-themed rooms that incorporate real opera sets and embellishing their gowns and tuxes with a little drama. Guests even have the opportunity to mingle and dance on the Detroit Opera House stage!
2. What were some of the themes in the past?
BravoBravo! has not always had an official theme, so this year is extra special! Previous themed years have included Mardi Gras/Carnevale, fashion and film.
3. What are you hoping this event will do for the Opera House and the City of Detroit?
BravoBravo! 2018 is a fundraiser dedicated to supporting the Detroit Opera House as a cultural icon of the City of Detroit. Proceeds of the event will go toward capital improvements of the historic theater to enhance the patron experience and support current and future programming. Planned upgrades include improved accessibility and safety as well as restoration and maintenance of the building.
4. Guests are encouraged to spice up their outfits with theatrical accessories, what will yours be?
I am a girl who loves shoes. They don’t judge you by your waist size. That’s all I can say without giving it away!
5. What are you looking forward to most this year?
I’m most looking forward to the performance piece artistically directed by local jazz singer, Nicole New. She put together a dynamic team! The piece features Kisma Jordan, who created her own “opera soul” genre, accompanied by electro-pop violin band NUCLASSICA. The piece also includes a talented troupe of ballet dancers performing works by Liz Schmidt, a local but nationally-recognized choreographer. This performance will be the centerpiece of the night, and we are encouraging all guests to come to the main stage at 9:45 p.m. to partake!
6. Are there any surprises in store for the guests?
What’s a theatrical theme without a little drama? You’ll have to wait and see!
